Stephen was born and brought up near Nottingham, England, not far from where DH Lawrence was born. He attended the Peveril School in Nottingham before joining the British Army. He spent many years travelling around the world and draws on all of his experiences of life, work and travel when writing. In his younger years, he was a keen surfer and amateur motor racing driver and now enjoys gardening, wine tasting and walking the dog in between chapters! He and his wife, Christine, have now settled back in Nottinghamshire. "I started to write because I used to read thriller books that did not hold me. I believe fast paced stories should be just that – fast paced. They should make the reader want to turnover and continue being enthralled about what might happen next. I hope readers enjoy my books for that reason. I enjoy writing and find it therapeutic and thought-provoking which helps me to have a constant flow of thoughts as I decide on the plot."
